AWARDS
I. Awards for Team Sports
A. In Sectional competition, the following will be awarded:
1. A plaque (value=1.0) for the winning team.
2. A plaque (value=.7) for the runner-up team provided at least ten teams participate in the sport.
3. A plaque (value=.1) for each member of the winning team.
a. The maximum number of plaques provided by Section XI are:
Baseball – 15
Basketball – 12
Cheerleading – 32
Field Hockey – 17
Football – 38
Lacrosse – 20
Soccer – 20
Softball – 15
Volleyball – 12
b. Schools may order additional plaques at their own expense.
B. In division competition a plaque (value=.6) will be awarded to the winning team.
C. In league competition, a plaque (value=.5) will be awarded to the winning team. (Co-champions will receive the same value plaque.)
D. In leagues/divisions of sports which utilized the power system, awards (value = .5) will be given as follows:

E. In team sports, the Section will recognize teams qualifying for participation in NYSPHSAA competition with a qualifier’s plaque provided those teams have also qualified for the Section tournament.
II. Awards for Individual Sports – Where Teams Advance.
This category includes: bowling, cross country and golf.
A. In Sectional competition, the following will be awarded:
1. A plaque (value=1.0) for the winning team.
2. A plaque (value=.7) for the runner-up team provided at least ten teams participate in the sport.
3. A plaque (value=.1) for each member of the winning team and other high point scorers as listed:
Bowling – 10 high scorers
Cross Country – 10 high scorers (per class)
Golf – 10 high scorers
4. In cross country, only a champion plaque for the winning team in each classification will be given. There will be no runner-up team award.
B. In division competition, the following will be awarded:
1. A plaque (value=.6) for the winning team.
2. A medal (value =.1) to the high scorers as listed in Section II.A.3 above.
C. In league competition, a plaque (value=.5) will be awarded to the winning team. In leagues/divisions of sports which utilize the power system, awards will be given as follows:
III. Awards for Individual Sports – Where Teams DO NOT Advance.
This category includes: badminton, fencing, gymnastics, swimming, tennis, track, winter track and wrestling.
A. In Sectional competition, the following will be awarded:
1. A plaque (value=1.0) for the winning team.
2. A plaque (value=.7) for the runner-up team provided at least ten teams participate in the sport.
3. A plaque (value=.1) for the first four places in each event.
B. In division competition, the following will be awarded:
1. A plaque (value=.6) for the winning team.
2. A medal (value=.1) for the first four places in each event.
C. In league competition, a plaque (value=.5) will be awarded to the winning team.

**** (Approved 3/15/2005 – effective 2005-06 school year) Section XI Class Champion – The school must play at least one contest in the Section XI Tournament against a school in their classification to be a Section XI Class Champion.

GOLD KEY Award
The Gold Key Award is the highest honor in Section XI that an athlete can receive for sports participation.
1. It is awarded to athletes who letter in eight junior varsity or varsity seasons in grades 10 through 12. Individual school districts can determine whether or not to include non-competitive cheerleading and/or kickline as criteria.
2. Section XI will present a certificate mounted on a plaque to each athlete who attains the necessary criteria to receive the award. Section XI will bill member schools for the cost of the plaque. The 10K Gold Key Charm is available for those member schools which wish to purchase it.
Member schools are encouraged to award the Gold Key to all male and female athletes who meet the outlined criteria.
